Either the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol or the authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic updates.
To register the DNS host (A or AAAA) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.
Some network adapters, such as virtual adapters for virtualization software, do not require DNS settings, and as such often do not have DNS servers set. Event 11164 is generated when the setting
Register you connection's addresses in DNS
is checked, but Windows cannot send IP address updates to that DNS server (e.g. the server doesn't accept dynamic updates, rejects updates for security reasons, or no DNS servers are configured for that adapter).
If you do not need to send dynamic IP address updates to a DNS server, then you can disable this option.
Simply clear the "Register you connection's addresses in DNS" check box in the DNS tab of the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" dialog of the IPv4 settings of the network adapter in question.
